The Story of Umm Sulaym

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:

“I entered Paradise, and heard footsteps.
So I said, ‘Who is this?’ and they told me, ‘It is al-Ghumaysa’ (رضي الله عنها), the daughter of Milhan, the mother of Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) (Umm Sulaym (رضي الله عنها)).”

[Ṣaḥiḥ Muslim]

 O successful woman, may Allah fragrance your life with knowledge and Eemaan, your time with obedience and awareness of Him, and may He beautify your body with
covering and modesty.

​Concealing Pregnancy due to Fearing the Evil Eye.

Question: Is it permissible for a woman to not inform her family—her uncle, her cousins or her friends—that she is pregnant, because she fears the evil eye or magic?
Answer: Informing others about these matters was not known among the Salaf (the first and best generation of Muslims). When a woman became pregnant she would not spread her business among the people, and this is not incumbent upon her to begin with. Furthermore; those that know you are pregnant cannot harm you if you are from those who are diligent in saying the remembrance of the evening and the morning. This safeguards the person from a great deal of evil and protects them from many predicaments. And Allah knows best.

​“When the knowledge one possesses is contrary to his actions, then the knowledge is a proof against the servant, and such a person resembles those whose Allāh’s anger is upon, the Jews. They were called, “those whose Allāh’s anger is upon” because they did not act upon the knowledge which they possessed.”

Likewise, when actions are without knowledge, ignorance and confusion enters the worship; such a person resembles the Christians because they (i.e. the Christians) worship Allāh upon ignorance and misguidance.
